Old World, New World - Music for the viola da gamba

Dancing, singing and music have accompanied celebrations in Spain and Portugal since the 15th century, both among the people and in high society. It was here that the vihuela and its descendants the guitar and the viola da gamba were born. It was here that dances with a bewitching character appeared that were to inspire musicians throughout Europe until the dawn of Romanticism. And beyond the seas, Iberian instruments and rhythms are at the origin of much of the music of our time. The repertoire of the Salmanazar ensemble is nourished by the past and by history. It breathes new life into the music of the past and makes it the music of today.
